A Weekend Workshop in Lincoln, New Mexico

ANTICIPATING THE UNEXPECTED,
Bindings that work for artist books, collage and pop-ups.
Instructor: Priscilla Spitler

Sponsored by Beverly Wilson, Bottle Tree Studio
Where: Lincoln, New Mexico
When: November 6 & 7, 9:00 to 4:00

concertina-sewn bindingThis special workshop is designed to help the artist/student to think ahead when binding an artist book, but without compromising the spontaneity of their creation. Simple structures will be constructed that give room at the spine to compensate for later additions such as collage, photos or for engineering pop-up spreads.

Techniques include sewing on a spine concertina and making a book with accordion text pages that are tipped together instead of sewing. The cover spine component on both bindings allow the text to lay flat to view full spreads. Bindings require no pressing and very little adhesive. What could be more perfect for the artistic temperament?
Time will be alloted for decorating and collage, or engineering of text pages.
