MARBLING, PASTEPAPER DECORATION 2007

Hands On Bookbinding presents a weekend dedicated to marbling and paste paper, pochoir and other decorative paper techniques.

Marbling and Pastepaper Decoration Workshop

Saturday & Sunday, April 28 & 29, 2007

Instructors: Pam Smith, aka Marblesmith and Priscilla Spitler.

Where: Buescher State Park, WPA Hall, Smithville, Texas.

Workshop fee: $250., includes all materials & equipment.

Fine printer and paper marbler Pam Smith resides in Abiquiu, New Mexico. For 28 years, she created and directed the small press program and exhibit at the Press of the Palace of Governors, Museum of New Mexico in Santa Fe. Years of book design, with attention to detail in letterpress printing, helped Pam develop and edition fine hand marbled paper editions under her Marblesmith imprint. As an instructor, her enthusiasm for the craft is contagious.

Priscilla Spitler has been creating paste and pochoir (stencilled) papers for her books and fine bindings for over 20 years. She finds these decorative paper techniques to be a natural extension of her original background in printmaking, allowing for experimentation on paper that adds a unique quality to her artist books.

It is sure to be an action packed weekend. To accomodate the popularity of this workshop, it is being held in a large recreation hall with access to outside work areas overlooking a small lake in the park.

Each day, half the group will be making paste papers, while the other half marbles paper. After a lunch break, the groups will switch. The second day will be more experimental. Studio may be open Saturday evening for more expoloration.

Cabins with bunks that sleep four are available (please inquire), while other accomodations are available close by (2-3 miles) in Smithville.

Fees will include considerable materials.

Note: If you have a large tub and comb set and are willing to share with the class, a discount will be provided upon approval. For the newly inspired, some new marbling tanks and comb sets being purchased for the workshop will be available for purchase afterwards at a slight discount.
